Machine Vocabulary (Wave), 2025

Acrylic, Wood

40 x 92 x 2 cm

Unique

Machine Vocabulary explores the inherent aesthetics of digital design tools and rapid prototyping technologies. This series of sculptures investigates how materials behave and transform when entirely mediated through standardized algorithms, with the human hand receding from the creative process.

Each piece captures the articulation of gesture produced by digital workflows — the distinct formal language that emerges when design decisions are shaped not by traditional craftsmanship, but by the automated processes embedded within 3D modelling software and fabrication technologies. The sculptures reflect a vocabulary of smooth curves, abrupt transitions, and structural repetitions: signatures of software-driven production.

By isolating and materializing these digital artifacts, Machine Vocabulary attempts to “write down” the formal lexicon of contemporary design tools. Set in stark contrast to the body’s organic, imperfect gestures, these works highlight how technological mediation produces a detached and standardized aesthetic. They mark a shift in authorship, where the tactile presence of the human hand is replaced by the impersonal logic of algorithms.

In tracing the gestures of the machine, Machine Vocabulary invites reflection on how creativity transforms when separated from the body, and how the language of making evolves in an era increasingly shaped by code, simulation, and automation.
